Khao Yai x BKK 2018

It's been awhile since my last holiday. Somehow I always find myself back in Thailand!

This time we decided to check out Khao Yai. It is gradually becoming more popular among the tourists. I'm gonna pen down the places we have been and what we have done on this one week trip! (4 June 2018 - 10 June 2018) We were going to Khao Yai for the first 3 days, and BKK in the next 4 days.

Day 1

It was a morning flight at 0635 with Scoot for SGD 176.57 (per pax without check in) and arrived in BKK airport at 0800. Time for our roadtrip after collecting our car from the Europcar. All the rental car services had booths at the airport. Everything was swift as we made a booking online beforehand. Note: Remember to check the condition of the car thoroughly.

1. Kua Kampan

After a 2 hours drive, we finally stopped over for lunch, where we had a taste of their homely Thai food in a cosy and open-air setting. Perfect to chill with cheap beers 🍻We went a little overboard with our very first meal in KY exceeding 1000 Baht. Oh yes, the toilet there is very clean too!!

Check-in was only at 2pm, but we reached our hotel, Dusitd2, early at 1pm, so they had a holding (air-conditioned) room for us to rest and take a short nap. By the time everything was settled, it was pretty late already around 4+pm. Note: Everything in KY closes super early & there are barely any streetlight. The sky turns dark as soon as it's before 7pm.

2. Chocolate Factory

The compound is huge but there's nothing much to explore. This 2-storey building is more of a restaurant & cafe on the 2nd level, and pastries on the 1st level. If you were expecting to see the chocolate making process, don't get your hopes up. It is a very small area in comparison to the compound.

3. PB Valley Winery
We arrived at about 6+pm, but it was already pitch black. We wanted to check out the vineyard and winery. The place is pretty big, so we asked a driver for directions (he seemed like he was waiting for his customers). The entire whole time as we walked further in, it was just darkness and there was no one else in sight. After walking the entire area which led us to a rundown compound with abandoned vehicles, only then did we turn around and walked back. It looked like this:

Basically we were led blindly by the driver, who did not inform us that the place was closed. What a futile trip 😞We decided to come back the next day.

4. Midwinter Green
Dinner time! It was one of the few places that closes late, 11pm. This European- themed building is located in the middle of Pak Chong road. They offered Thai & European styled dishes, but on a slightly higher price point. Its compensated with the amazing ambience and live singing 👍It's better to go in the day time if you wanna check out the architecture.

Day 2

1. Khao Yai National Park

We got there at 11.30am. It was supposed to be an early day 7am as planned, but the guys were too tired. Our designated driver was still very tired, so plans were shifted.
There is an entrance fee of 400THB (adults), 200THB (children) & 50THB (per car)
Opening hours: 7am-5.30pm

The entire park spread far and wide- 2000 square metres!! The treks are straightforward, but the stairs can get really steep. Even though it's home to may wildlife- elephants, deers, etc. We did not manage to catch any of them, probably wrong timing.

They have a few waterfalls- Haew Suwat Waterfall and Haew Narok Waterfall. We went to the more accessible one (Haew Suwat Waterfall) which meant a bigger crowd, so we had to take turns to snap some pictures.

2. PB Valley
We decided to skip the winery tour and just have lunch here. After which we got back to the hotel to rest, the entire trip was tiring because KY is really really huge, getting from one place to another can take close to an hour. It was impossible getting to anywhere without transport.

3. Pool Time
It was a waste to be out on a holiday sleeping, does anyone feel me? So pool time it is!

4. Lookkai Khao Yai
Dinner at another atas- looking french garden theme restaurant. I personally love the food here!! Their tom yam soup is super spicy cannot do without a drink.

Day 3
Checkout out before making a quick trip to PrimoPizza and The Birder's Lodge.

1. PrimoPizza

Thank God the guys didn't go in. The place was disappointing, nothing much in there. We were quite blur. We only realised that the entry fees included tickets to feed the llamas, but too late!
Entry fees: 200 THB

2. Birder's Lodge

It is right next to Primo Pizza. It was a coffee run because we had to rush back to BKK airport by 3pm to return our car.

3. A&W

After all that rushing out of KY, we still had some time to stop over at A&W. IT WAS THE BEST MEAL!! The curly fries and the chicken is tender and juicy!! I wish they had it in SG ): I know people go there for the rootbeer float, but personally I dislike the taste of it.

This concludes my 3 day trip in Khao Yai and my stay in Dusitd2! I'll do up another post on my BKK trip where I went to places that were different from my previous trip.
